Olympic Winter Games 2030

The French Alps 2030: dates, venues and what is reported about the programme.

The next Olympic Winter Games are in the French Alps, from 1 to 17 February 2030. They are upcoming, so there are no results. The IOC's own site timed out every time the research tried it, so much of what follows comes from the Canadian Olympic Committee, from other federations and from press reports, and each item says which.

Status on 24 October 2026

The French Alps 2030 Olympic Winter Games are upcoming. The Canadian Olympic Committee gives the dates as 1 to 17 February 2030. The Paralympic dates were not found in the research. No athlete has qualified or won anything at these Games, and nothing on this page should be read as a forecast.

How the Games were awarded

  • The vote: the Canadian Olympic Committee says the 142nd IOC Session, in Paris, named the French Alps as host on 24 July 2024, by 84 votes to 4.
  • The condition: FIL, the international luge federation, reported on 24 July 2024 that the Session (held from 22 to 24 July) elected the French Alps on condition that the French government's guarantee for the Games be supplied by deadlines the IOC set: the guarantee to reach the Prime Minister by 1 October 2024 and to be ratified by the French Parliament by 1 March 2025. Whether those deadlines were met was not checked in the research, so we do not say.

Venue clusters

The Canadian Olympic Committee groups the venues into four clusters, Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Briancon and Lyon, plus long-track speed skating at Thialf in Heerenveen, Netherlands. For the ski and snowboard sports it gives:

ClusterSportVenue
SavoieAlpine skiing, speed eventsCourchevel
SavoieAlpine skiing, technical eventsVal d'Isere
SavoieSki jumpingTremplin du Praz
BrianconFreestyle skiing and snowboardSerre Chevalier and Montgenevre
Haute-SavoieCross-country skiingLa Clusaz
Haute-SavoieBiathlonLe Grand-Bornand

Search summaries of two IOC news items add detail: that in June 2026 the IOC Executive Board approved the first changes to the venue masterplan and confirmed Courchevel and Val d'Isere as the two alpine venues, and that the IOC Coordination Commission later gave the downhill, super-G and both team combined events to Courchevel and the giant slalom and slalom to Val d'Isere. The IOC pages themselves timed out, so these allocations are unconfirmed. Venues for freeride and ski mountaineering were not found.

The programme, as reported

The IOC's own release could not be opened. As reported on 7 July 2026 by The Sports Examiner, which relayed the IOC's announcement, the IOC Executive Board's programme decision for 2030:

  • adds freeride as a discipline with four events: women's and men's ski and snowboard;
  • adds a freestyle ski cross mixed team event, a snowboard mixed team parallel event, a women's ski jumping super team and a biathlon mixed singles team event (biathlon is governed by the IBU, not FIS);
  • removes Nordic combined. A search summary of a FIS news item headlined as Nordic combined being cut from the Olympic Winter Games points the same way; neither the IOC nor the FIS page was read in full, so this is reported rather than confirmed.

The same report gives 126 events in all (56 women's, 55 men's and 15 mixed) and about 3,046 athletes (1,525 women and 1,521 men), including ski mountaineering. Those totals are not confirmed against the IOC's release. The IOC's headline, seen in a search result, calls Alpes 2030 the first gender-equal Olympic Winter Games and says freeride ski and snowboard athletes will make their debut.

Snowboard parallel giant slalom stays on the programme. The IOC had put off its decisions on that event and on Nordic combined until after Milano Cortina 2026, according to a search summary of the IOC's page and to The Sports Examiner.

Ski mountaineering

Ski mountaineering, which had three events at Milano Cortina 2026, stays for 2030 as an additional sport. NBC Sports reported on 25 June 2026 that the full IOC membership approved it two weeks after the Executive Board, that the organisers plan five events, and that the final list was still to be set.

The two added events, two versions. NBC Sports says the two new events would be women's and men's individual races. Another report seen in the same search, from Ahram Online, mentions relays. The IOC programme was not read, so we cannot say which is right.

Freeride's route to the Games

Freeride became a FIS discipline before its Olympic decision: FIS now runs the FIS Freeride World Tour and held the first FIS Freeride World Championships at Ordino Arcalis, Andorra, on 3 February 2026. Those results are on X Games and freeride.

What is not known yet

  • The Paralympic dates and the Paralympic programme.
  • The venues for freeride and ski mountaineering at 2030, and the final ski mountaineering events.
  • The IOC's own wording on the dates, venues and programme, since olympics.com could not be opened for this research.

How the 2026 programme compared is on the Olympic programme, and the 2026 results on Milano Cortina 2026.
